Not sure, but do you remember when Nugent opened for the boys in Alpine Valley?

Nothing goes together like 60's Flower Power and a dose of "Kill 'Em All, Let God Sort 'Em Out".

The Scarlet > Wang Dang, Sweet Poon Tang closer was immense.

Seriously. Nugent opened for the Dead? I'd love to have seen that - always secretly enjoyed Nugent's utterly non-PC stance.

Nah, don't think The Nuge would have thought it was such a great idea:

Crossfire Transcript:

CARLSON: I haven't. But you know what? You will amazed to know, Ted, that in Paul's book -- Paul has a new book called "Buck Up, Suck Up," there are also recipes. I've read Paul's book. I've read your book. I want to put on the screen just for illustrative purposes here. These are some recipes from Paul's book. Paul Begala's Boys' French Toast. Mom's Friday's Chicken Salad.
And your recipes from your book from Kill It and Grill It. Here they are. Wild boar chops, big game meat cakes. Now I'm wondering, I mean, doesn't that just kind of say it all?
NUGENT: Well, Paul is a Grateful Dead fan. So we won't hold that against him.
BEGALA: Actually, I'm not. I'm a country music fan. But I don't...
NUGENT: That's even worse.
BEGALA: ...mind...
NUGENT: Those boys have got to learn how to play guitar.

And these from "Ted, White and Blue":

"How dare any bloodsucking American ask you or me to provide for his or her healthcare if he obviously does not care about his/her health? That is souless, ugly, Planet of the Apes, anti-American, brain dead, Grateful Dead logic."

"By the way, how much LSD and Grateful Dead music does it take to make you believe you can hop on the tail of a comet?"

During an Anthony Bourdain show that featured him and Ted Nugent with a barbeque and some firearms:

"Did the Grateful Dead have BBQ's? We're just grateful they're dead"

He is no doubt a very entertaining man. Can't say I agree with him about the majority of what comes out of his mouth, but I do like the honesty and conviction.

That's great stuff - always good to be reminded that there are people with other points of view than your own. (I mean we don't get much of that around here, do we?) I don't really think I'd like to spend too much time hanging out with Ted but, like you, I do appreciate his entertainment value. Bourdain is another guy who I really like because he's unashamed about what he thinks - Kitchen Confidential is a great book:

"Vegetarians, and their Hezbollah-like splinter faction, the vegans ... are the enemy of everything good and decent in the human spirit."

That's pretty funny

Didn't Owsley only eat meat?

"His all-meat diet is a well-known example. When he was younger, Bear read about the Eskimos eating only fish and meat and became convinced that humans are meant to be exclusively carnivorous. The members of the Grateful Dead remember living with Bear for several months in 1966 in Los Angeles, where the refrigerator contained only bottles of milk and a slab of steak, meat they fried and ate straight out of the pan. His heart attack several years ago had nothing to do with his strict regimen, according to Bear, but more likely the result of some poisonous broccoli his mother made him eat as a youth."
